State-run parks remain closed in Jackson County

I read the article about Jackson County parks gradually reopening. I assume because TouVelle Park was not mentioned, it is still closed until further notice?

Although this scenic park along the Rogue River near Table Rocks is within Jackson County, the TouVelle State Recreation Site is run by Oregon State Parks.

Oregon State Parks announced Wednesday that state parks will remain closed beyond May 8. There is no date for opening day-use areas at any state parks at this time.

Reservations for state park camping and day-use facilities have been canceled at least through May 25, with more cancellations likely beyond that date, officials said.

All though some rural parks may seem out of the way and uncrowded, state parks officials said they don’t want to open those parks and inundate rural communities, grocery stores and health care systems with thousands of extra people.

State park officials said closing popular sites while leaving rural sites open would be a logistical nightmare.

The closure does not apply to the ocean shore, but all state-managed parks, parking lots and beach access points are closed. If you visit a beach, you may be approached by law enforcement to remind you of Gov. Kate Brown’s order to limit travel and maintain social distance from people not within your household, state parks officials said.

Officials urged the public not to try sneaking into closed state parks.

“Closed is closed. We lock restrooms, stop trash service, and it’s not safe for you to go into a closed park,” officials said in a statement Wednesday. “If we see you in a park, we’ll ask you to leave. If you refuse, we can issue you a citation. If that’s not persuasive enough, we can call law enforcement. We don’t want to do that, and they don’t need the hassle. Take a step back and understand this is temporary and driven by Oregon’s state of emergency. Stay home, stay healthy, visit us online, and we’ll see you on the other side.”
