Missing kayaker found dead on Diamond Lake
A kayaker who went missing June 30 on Diamond Lake has been found dead, according to a press release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Jared Bruce Boria, 37, was found in the lake at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, the release said.
Boria reportedly launched a kayak from his campsite at 10 p.m. at Diamond Lake Campground. A news release indicated he was not wearing a life jacket.
Emergency dispatchers received reports of a male yelling for help from the water about 20 minutes after Boria launched his boat.
Boria’s wife reported him missing, and numerous agencies searched the lake, including the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office marine division and dive team, Douglas, Jackson, Coos and Klamath search-and-rescue teams, Oregon State Police Fish & Game Division, U.S. Forest Service, REACH Air Medical Services and resort officials.
“The sheriff’s office extends its deepest condolences to the family of Jared,” Sgt. Brad O’Dell said in a news release. “There were numerous man hours and resources spent searching for Jared so his family and friends could have some answers. Our hearts go out to them.”
