Crews contain fire near Rogue River
A car fire on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 near Rogue River quickly turned into a grass fire that spread to about three acres before firefighters, mostly from Rogue River Fire District No. 1, got it under control near mile post 47.5 Monday.
The northbound shoulder was closed to traffic while crews mopped up the fire, which started after a driver pulled over to inspect his smoking car. The car was on fire and the fire jumped to nearby grass.
Nobody was injured, but according to Rogue River Fire District No. 1 an ambulance was called to the scene to tend to a firefighter who suffered from heat exhaustion. The fire is 100% contained.
