Wednesday evening winds expected to precede wet system
Wind gusts of 15 to 30 mph are in Southwest Oregon's Wednesday evening forecast, the breezes anticipated to usher in some much-needed rain to the Rogue Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
Those winds are generally expected to blow in from the southeast. The strongest gusts are expected near the Oregon Coast, the Illinois Valley and Azalea area, and east of the Cascades.
Crews on the South Obenchain fire, first reported more than two weeks ago near Eagle Point, have reached 80% containment and continue to mop up in the interior. Weather officials assigned to the fire reported a "good chance for rain" over the fire area Wednesday night, with a chance of additional showers Friday.
