Youth hockey embezzlement case still pending
I want to know what happened to the gal charged with stealing all the money from the kids at the hockey rink. I believe her name was Cara, and she was arrested in November. I recall there being multiple felonies and identity theft as well.
We haven’t forgotten about the case of Cara Jane Ruettgers, 44, who faces multiple felony counts, including aggravated theft, forgery and identity theft for allegedly stealing $57,000 during her years on the board of the nonprofit Rogue Valley Youth Hockey Association.
There hasn’t been much in the way of developments in the case, however. No trial date has been set, Jackson County Circuit Court records show.
For those just tuning in, Ruettgers served on the nonprofit’s board between 2016 and 2019 in roles that included treasurer and president, according to previous news reports. Medford police arrested Ruettgers in November following months of investigation that included forensic accounting help from the Oregon Department of Justice.
Her next court appearance is a pretrial conference set for Oct. 26, according to court records.
An August court appearance was rescheduled at the request of Ruettgers’ defense lawyer, Jeni Feinberg, because she was working on gathering unspecified “information” that Feinberg intends to present to the Jackson County District Attorney’s office in her case.
