Moran wins council seat
Shaun Moran defeated his nearest opponent for Ashland City Council seat No. 3, Julian Bell, by 610 votes, in the closest race on the local ballot.
The race was too close to call on election night, but Moran pulled through with just over 40% of the vote, while Bell finished with more than 35%, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s office.
Moran has previously said his five-year tenure with the Budget Committee will be a valuable asset to the council body to maintain some continuity in fiscal management. He was unavailable for comment Monday.
Bell said a victory may have eased his ability to bring climate-focused issues before the council and contribute his vote, but his work will continue as a member of the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission and Climate Policy Commission.
The new council will include recent victors Moran, Paula Hyatt and Gina DuQuenne, along with sitting councilors Tonya Graham, Stefani Seffinger and Stephen Jensen.
