Kid Time offering virtual Polar Express event
The pandemic may have derailed the in-person version of the Kid Time Children Museum’s annual Polar Express holiday event, but an alternative virtual version is pulling into the station this weekend.
The free online event, which can be viewed on the Kid Time website, kid-time.org and on the museum’s Facebook page, facebook.com/KidTimeMedford, begins Dec. 19 and lasts through the holiday season. It will feature videos that include a reading of Chris Van Allsburg’s “Polar Express,” visits from holiday characters, music, and instructions for various activities. The museum is also offering kits intended for those activities.
“We’ve given them a way to have their Kid Time Polar Express, but in the best way they can with the COVID situation,” Kid Time executive director Sunny Spicer said. “There are just a lot of little things to make a fun family night.”
The kits can be purchased on the Kid Time website, kid-time.org/polar-express-event. They are free for Kid Time members and those displaced by the Almeda and South Obenchain fires and $2.25 per kit for everyone else. The kits need to be picked up between Dec. 19-22, with mask wearing and physical distancing guidelines abided by for those who swing by. Kit purchasers will decide on a pickup time during checkout.
The kits are going fast, with only about 200 left as of Friday afternoon, Spicer said. Visit Kid Time’s website or Facebook page for more information.
