65 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Jackson County

Reported COVID-19 deaths and positive cases continued to climb Christmas Day.

On Friday, Jackson County recorded 65 new cases of the novel coronavirus for an elevated total of 5,551 cases since the pandemic began. With no new reported deaths, the county’s total death toll remained at 64.

The Oregon Health Authority said the state received 908 reports of new confirmed and presumptive cases of the virus, bringing the statewide total to 107,718,

Additionally, the virus killed seven more Oregonians for a statewide death toll of 1,422.

Multnomah County reported the highest increase in cases with 215. Next came Marian County at 123, Clackamas County with 82, Jackson County’s 65 then 57 new cases in Lane County. All five of those counties remain in the Elevated Risk category.

According to OHA, 1,169 Oregonians received the COVID-19 vaccination Christmas eve, bring the state’s total of first-dose vaccines up to 17,130.

The number of hospitalized patients went down by 23 to 472. There are 103 COVID-19 patients in ICU beds across the state, which is two more than Thursday.
