SOCAN meeting to focus on Almeda fire
Southern Oregon Climate Action Now will hold a virtual meeting focused on the Almeda fire and climate change from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, via Zoom.
The meeting is free to the public, but registration is required. Visit https://tinyurl.com/e9ecw4o6.
“Although weather conditions that day may have been historically unusual, the accelerating climate chaos that global warming imposes upon us warns that fire will return to Southwest Oregon,” the release reads.
Guests will include Michael Hoch, sustainability and parks coordinator for the City of Talent and Karen Chase, Southern Oregon outreach manager for the Energy Trust of Oregon. They will discuss recovery efforts in Talent following the fire, which burned 3,200 acres and destroyed thousands of homes in September 2020, and Energy Trust of Oregon’s efforts to help towns rebuild, with a focus on sustainability.
