Waterline break closes Jackson County Health & Human Services building

A water pipe break will close the Jackson County’s Health & Human Services building for the remainder of the week, department officials said.

The break was detected during the “early morning hours” Wednesday, according to a news release. A significant portion of the first floor, an estimated 35,000 square feet of space, sustained water damage, according to county HHS deputy director Malisa Dodd. Restoration efforts are underway.

“We’re very hopeful we will have the doors open by Monday,” Dodd said.

How the pipe broke was not immediately available Thursday. The building’s crisis area bore the brunt of the damage, Dodd said. The health department provides crisis services to residents, via walk-in, telehealth and telephone, in the area. The department’s crisis line is still available 24 hours a day at 541-774-8201.

The public health clinic and veterans’ services offices are also on the first floor. Some equipment in the building’s IT department also sustained water damage, Dodd said, but that will have no impact to department data, which is stored elsewhere.

All COVID-19 vaccinations scheduled at the building for the remainder of the week have been moved elsewhere. Dodd said she wasn’t aware of any cancellations.

“Our intent at this point is to have a remote clinic open on Monday, but we’re still working the logistics out,” she said.

Many services are still available over the phone or by utilizing telehealth.

“Please know we will return phone calls as soon as possible if you leave a message,” the news release said.
