SOHS has a new director

The Southern Oregon Historical Society has hired former Jefferson Public Radio director Ron Kramer as its executive director, effective April 1, according to a news release.

Kramer, who worked for JPR until his 2012 termination, also helped co-found KDRV-TV in 1979 and local internet service provider jeffnet.org., the release said.

He also spearheaded the purchase and restoration of the Cascade Theater in Redding, California.

“Ron’s association with the Historical Society goes back many years,” SOHS board of trustees President Doug McGeary said in the release. “His proven skills for building successful nonprofit organizations make Ron both a good fit and a natural choice.”

Kramer had been semi-retired.

“One of my undergraduate degrees was in history, and I have always been both a fan and supporter of SOHS,” Kramer said. “I have been very impressed with the way in which the society has continued to move forward these past few years while facing many challenges, and I believe I can help it to evolve into a historical society that preserves the past and serves the present, while anticipating and preparing for the future.”
