Forestry crews will conduct a controlled burn Wednesday on about 30 acres of private land 2 1/2 miles west of downtown Ashland , according to a news release.

The burn, managed by Grayback Forestry and the Lomakatsi Restoration Project, is part of the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project, intended to mitigate fire danger within the Ashland Watershed.

“You may smell smoke in the evening hours through early morning in neighborhoods on the western edge of town, including Ashland Mine Road, Frank Hill Rd, Wrights Creek Drive neighborhoods, and at Valley View Drive and Highway 99 near exit 19,” the release said.
