Slurry seal project begins Thursday
ASHLAND — The Ashland Public Works department is scheduled to begin the 2021 slurry seal project Thursday on West Nevada Street. Some streets will be closed periodically between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. until the project is completed April 28 on Eighth Street. Sealing activities are scheduled for weekdays only.
Street Supervisor Chuck Schweizer said slurry sealing “helps to prolong the life of the street” in an inexpensive way.
“The best thing people can do, if they’ve gotten notices that their street is going to be slurry sealed, is park on an adjacent street and stay out of that area for the day,” Schweizer said. “You don’t want to be driving on this stuff until the streets are opened up. You don’t want to be walking on it — it can be tracked into your home or on your driveway.”
Schweizer said the Public Works department has made arrangements with the trash collection service to pick up early on scheduled days so as not to interfere with sealing. The truck will return in the evening for any missed pickups.
“We’ve been in coordination with fire and police, and they’re aware of what’s going on,” Schweizer said. “At all times, there will be access to emergency services if people need it.”
