New airline startup arrives in Medford
A new airline has touched down in Southern Oregon offering discount fares on flights to Southern California.
Avelo Airlines is offering direct flights between Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport and Hollywood Burbank Airport — formerly known as Bob Hope Airport, according to a press release issued by the Medford airport.
The airline was to be welcomed Tuesday evening with a traditional water arch and speeches from Medford airport Director Jerry Brienza, Medford Mayor Randy Sparancino, Jackson County Commissioner Dave Dotterrer and airline executives.
Effective this week, the airline will fly a 189-seat Boeing 737-800 between Medford and Southern California on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, according to an earlier Mail Tribune report. According to the airline’s website, one-way fares start between $19 and $24 per passenger.
The airline made its inaugural flight April 28 from Hollywood Burbank to Charles M. Schultz-Sonoma County Airport, according to a news release from the airline, and by late May the airline will connect Burbank to 10 regional airports, including Eugene, Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona, and Bozeman Yellowstone, Montana.
