Paving project on Siskiyou Boulevard starts Thursday
Ashland drivers should allow for extra travel time starting Thursday when driving on Siskiyou Boulevard between Walker Avenue and Interstate 5.
Oregon Department of Transportation and Jackson County crews will begin a pavement improvement project June 24 on the three-mile stretch of road in south Ashland.
Sweeping begins Thursday, followed by oiling and chipping starting at 7 a.m. June 28. Flaggers will mark single-lane traffic areas.
The $120,000 project represents a “long-standing partnership” between county and state entities, according to ODOT.
“County crews handle the chip seal work, while ODOT flaggers take care of traffic control. All of our crews work very closely together,” said ODOT Central Point Manager Steve Stone.
Chip seals extend the longevity of roads by sealing rock chips into the oiled surface with rollers and vehicle traffic.
The project is scheduled to finish July 6 with sealing and striping.
