Evacuations lifted around Cutoff fire

inciweb photoFirefighters mop up Tuesday inside the perimeter of the Cutoff fire near Bonanza, which has burned 1,150 acres.

The Cutoff fire near Bonanza was 96% contained and evacuation readiness advisories were lifted for all areas near the fire on Sunday.

The primary Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team returned incident control to local ODF, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service units Sunday morning, to monitor for residual heat and patrol affected areas through the heat wave.

“There is little chance of the fire escaping, but it still needs to be monitored and patrolled, especially through the expected hot weather,” said Joe Hessel, Cutoff fire incident commander.

New fires started in the vicinity nearly every day during the Cutoff fire, Hessel said.

“I’m pleased we were able to quickly take care of this fire and put resources back into the system so they can be available for the next fire,” he said.
