Crater Lake Ride the Rim canceled
CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK – The Ride the Rim event scheduled for Sept. 11 and 18 at Crater Lake National Park has been canceled, according to park officials.
Marsha McCabe, the park’s public information officer, said multiple factors influenced the decision, including rising COVID-19 case rates throughout Oregon, limited availability of staff and volunteers, and ongoing unhealthy air quality from fires throughout the region.
“The health and well-being of our visitors and staff is our top priority,” she said in a statement. “The National Park Service and all the partners supporting Ride the Rim look forward to the return of the event in September 2022.”
The event, which draws thousands of bicyclists and runners, begins at the Rim Drive/North Entrance junction and follows Rim Drive to the park headquarters area. During the events, the portion of Rim Drive is closed to motorized vehicles. The event is a cooperative project involving park staff, Discover Klamath and various volunteer groups.
