COVID-19 outbreaks rise at Jackson County schools

The Oregon Healthy Authority reported COVID-19 outbreaks at 11 schools in Jackson County in its latest weekly report on outbreaks in schools, nursing homes and other workplaces.

Kids Unlimited Academy in Medford had the largest school-based outbreak with 20 COVID-19 cases, according to the report released Wednesday.

Other Jackson County schools with reported outbreaks were Abraham Lincoln Elementary School (nine cases), Rogue River Elementary School (two cases), Kennedy Elementary School (two cases), Howard Elementary School (seven cases), Phoenix High School (eight cases), Ashland Middle School (three cases), St. Mary’s School (two cases), Jacksonville Elementary School (two cases), Griffin Creek Elementary School (four cases) and Wilson Elementary School (four cases).

OHA is no longer identifying whether the cases occurred among students, staff members or volunteers.

With school back in session, outbreaks are on the rise in local schools.

On Sept. 9, OHA reported four schools in Jackson County had outbreaks totaling 12 students and adults.

In the latest outbreak report, OHA reported a child care facility outbreak involving five COVID-19 cases tied to DayCamp at YMCA Orchard Hill.

At local businesses and nonprofit organizations, OHA issued new outbreak report data for workplaces with at least 30 workers and five or more COVID-19 cases.

Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford again topped the list with 134 cases.

Providence Medford Medical Center logged 15 cases, and the Jackson County Jail reported 17 cases.

While workplace outbreaks are falling in Jackson County, outbreaks continue to sweep through Josephine County workplaces.

OHA recorded Josephine County workplace outbreaks at Masterbrand Cabinets (40 cases), Rogue Valley Door (31 cases), Walmart Supercenter (26 cases), Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility (18 cases), WinCo Foods (17 cases), Taylor’s Sausage (17 cases), Fred Meyer (16 cases), the Josephine County Jail (15 cases), Fire Mountain Gems (11 cases), Siskiyou Community Health Center (nine cases), the Department of Human Services (eight cases), Grayback Forestry (eight cases), Ready Ride (seven cases) and First Student Inc. school bus service (five cases.)

OHA reported new cases and deaths at nursing homes that had at least three COVID-19 cases and/or one death.

In Jackson County, outbreaks occurred at Farmington Square - Medford (42 cases, eight deaths), Avamere Health Services of Rogue Valley (14 cases), Pear Valley Senior Living (16 cases), Rogue Valley Manor (19 cases), Avamere at Three Fountains (14 cases, one death), Linda Vista Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (14 cases, five deaths), Skylark Assisted Living (19 cases, one death), Avamere at Waterford Assisted Living Facility (15 cases), Morrow Heights Retirement & Assisted Living Community (three cases), Ridgeview Assisted Living Facility (13 cases), Ashley Manor - Arrowhead (three cases, one death), The Springs at Anna Maria (nine cases), Fountain Plaza (three cases) and The Springs at Veranda Park (three cases).
