COVID-cases scattered widely across Jackson County schools

The Oregon Health Authority’s weekly report on COVID-19 workplace outbreaks shows cases scattered across more than 50 schools in Jackson County.

OHA’s recent outbreak numbers count students, staff and volunteers who tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 28 days. They may have caught the virus at school or somewhere else in the community.

OHA released its latest report Wednesday.

South Medford High School had the most cases, with 21 students and one adult. North Medford High School had the next highest count with 15 students, followed by Hedrick Middle School with 13 students.

Other local schools with recent cases are: Abraham Lincoln Elementary School (four students, two adults), Ashland Middle School (one student), Ashland High School (four students, one adult), Bellview Elementary School (three students, one adult), Cascade Christian High School (three students, one adult), Cascade Christian Middle School (one student), Central Medford High School (two students), Central Point Elementary School (one student, one adult), Crater High School (11 students, one adult), Crater Lake Charter Academy (three students, one adult);

Also, Eagle Point High School (nine students, one adult), Eagle Rock Elementary (five students, one case), Eagle Point Middle School (two students), Griffin Creek Elementary (one student), Hanby Middle School (four students, one adult), Hoover Elementary School (two students, two adults), Howard Elementary School (six students, three adults), Jackson Elementary School (three students), Jefferson Elementary School (four students, one adult), Jewett Elementary School (three students, one adult), John Muir Outdoor School (four students), Kennedy Elementary School (eight students, three adults), Lone Pine Elementary School (six students);

Also, Sacred Heart Catholic School - Medford (three students), Sams Valley Elementary School (two students), Scenic Middle School (11 students, one adult), Shady Cove School (two students), South Valley Academy (one student), St. Mary’s School (four students, one adult), Table Rock Elementary School (one student, two adults), Talent Middle School (nine students, one adult), Talent Elementary School (one student), The Valley School of Southern Oregon (one student, one adult), Walker Elementary School (two students, one adult), Washington Elementary School (four students), White Mountain Middle School (three students) and Wilson Elementary School (one student, one adult).

OHA reported only one active workplace outbreak at a business or nonprofit organization in Jackson County — an outbreak with 137 cases tied to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

OHA says to protect privacy it only reports outbreaks at businesses with at least 30 employees and five cases. It doesn’t report deaths at individual businesses.

Workplace outbreaks remain more common in Josephine County.

OHA reported outbreaks at Walmart Supercenter (44 cases), Masterbrand Cabinets (41 cases), Rogue Valley Door (31 cases), Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility (18 cases), Taylor’s Sausage (16 cases), Siskiyou Community Health Center (13 cases), First Student school bus company (11 cases) and Asante Three Rivers Medical Center (six cases).

OHA also reported active outbreaks at nursing homes, retirement communities and other congregate living sites.

OHA reported active outbreaks at Farmington Square - Medford (44 cases, eight deaths), Avamere Health Services of Rogue Valley (18 cases), Pear Valley Senior Living (20 cases), Rogue Valley Manor (18 cases), Avamere at Three Fountains (23 cases, one death), Weatherly Court Senior Living (10 cases, one death), West Wind ECU (five cases) and The Springs at Anna Maria (nine cases).
