Jackson County plans to test the Citizen Alert System on Thursday as part of earthquake preparedness.
Alerts will go out Thursday

Jackson County plans to test the Citizen Alert System Thursday as part of earthquake preparedness.

Residents with registered Citizen Alert System accounts will receive the test through all their listed delivery methods, which include cellphone and landline CenturyLink phone calls, text and email. The test alerts will go out between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.

A broad range of organizations in Jackson County will take part in the Great Oregon Shakeout earthquake preparedness event Thursday.

Jackson County Emergency Management encourages people to get informed and prepare by doing things such as signing up for Citizen Alert, forming a plan for safety before an earthquake happens and learning what to do if one does occur.

"Earthquakes are rare in Southern Oregon, but being ready and having a plan are essential for keeping you and your loved ones safe,“ said Jackson County Emergency Manager Holly Powers.
