Jackson County reports 57 new COVID-19 cases

Jackson County reported 57 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and two more COVID-19 deaths.

The Oregon Health Authority reported 861 new COVID-19 cases statewide Wednesday and 19 more deaths. Details about those who died weren’t immediately available.

So far, no cases of the omicron variant of the virus that is spreading across the globe have been detected in Oregon, according to OHA’s Wednesday data.

Josephine County reported 25 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and one death.

The four hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties had two open intensive care unit beds Wednesday, according to hospitalization data.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have been trending up for nearly three weeks in the Rogue Valley. Fifty-two people with COVID-19 were hospitalized in Jackson and Josephine counties Wednesday. Of those, 15 were in intensive care and eight were on ventilators, according to hospitalization data.

The number of COVID-19 patients in ICU beds and on ventilators has been trending up for nearly two weeks in the Rogue Valley. Increased ICU bed and ventilator use tends to follow after an increase in hospitalizations as the condition of some patients worsens.
