Jackson County reports 185 new COVID-19 cases
Jackson County reported 185 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and the COVID-19-related death of a 68-year-old man who died at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
He had underlying conditions, the Oregon Healthy Authority said.
Josephine County reported 48 new COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths.
Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority reported 2,948 new COVID-19 cases and 15 COVID-19-related deaths. The people who died ranged in age from 48 to 97.
On Thursday, hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties were caring for 58 patients with COVID-19, down from 67 the day before, according to hospitalization data.
Health officials are predicting a spike in COVID-19 cases fueled by the spread of the highly contagious omicron variant.
While hospitalization numbers elsewhere have been bumping up and down inconsistently, hospitalizations are beginning to spike in the Portland area, rising from 127 on Dec. 22 to 219 on Thursday, according to hospitalization data.
