Skeletonized body found near Roxy Ann Peak trail
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police forensic investigators are working to identify a body found Monday along a trail on Roxy Ann Peak.
A hiker found the body Monday evening while hiking with a dog, according to a news release issued Wednesday morning by the sheriff’s office.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office deployed a search-and-rescue ground team, human remains-detection dogs and detectives to recover the body and investigate the scene.
Detectives said they have found no indications of suspicious activity.
Police described the remains as skeletonized. The Medical Examiner’s office will work with an Oregon State Police forensic pathologist to identify the body, conduct an autopsy and determine the individual’s cause of death.
Police will release the name of the deceased individual after the body is identified and relatives are notified.
