OLLI announces hybrid spring schedule

ASHLAND — The spring catalog went live Monday online at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Southern Oregon University, which announced a hybrid in-person and online schedule of nearly 90 courses.

In-person classes will be offered for the first time since March 2020, according to OLLI communications and community outreach volunteer Anne Bellegia, and “those who have enjoyed the convenience of online access will continue to be served from anywhere with internet,” she said.

About half of spring classes will be offered in person, subject to SOU pandemic precautions, with the other half online. A one-term all-inclusive membership fee of $100 provides unlimited access to spring courses and participation in all activities and events, Bellegia said.

The course request period opened Monday and closes March 4. Open registration begins March 21, and the spring term lasts March 28-June 3.

OLLI’s recent free webinar series, “Plan4Care: Values and Choices,” which focused on navigating care supports for older adults and families, attracted nearly 600 registrants, according to an OLLI at SOU press release.

As a result of the substantial interest and broad applicability of the topic, Bellegia said, OLLI at SOU made the recordings, slides and resource page for the series available free online, accessible at bit.ly/3GIPfKO.

Each session, led by Dr. Heather Young, brought together three panelists to address “anticipating care needs and considering personal values, developing and communicating an action plan, and identifying resources for implementing a care plan,” according to the release.

In the spring catalog, life planning courses include “Caregiving for Alzheimer’s: A Personal Journey,” “Hospice and End of Life Care,” “DIY FUNdamental Stock Analysis for Beginners,” “How to be a (Better) Philanthropist,” “Overview of Estate Planning in Oregon,” and “How to Ensure Your Money Lasts Your Lifetime,” in addition to courses in languages and cultures, the arts, literature, history, movement, nature, recreation, personal exploration, STEM and social sciences.
