Schools, nursing homes remain on state COVID-19 outbreak list

The Oregon Health Authority reported no current COVID-19 outbreaks at Jackson County businesses or child care facilities in its weekly COVID-19 outbreak report Wednesday, but many local schools and nursing homes remained on list.

To protect privacy, OHA only reports outbreaks at child care facilities with at least 16 kids and two COVID-19 cases.

For nursing homes and retirement communities, OHA is tracking active outbreaks, some of which began as far back as December 2021 when the highly contagious omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus appeared in Oregon.

The COVID-19 cases at each facility are cumulative from when an outbreak began and don’t all necessarily represent recent cases.

Jackson County nursing homes and retirement communities with active outbreaks listed in OHA’s latest report are:

Hearthstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (111 cases, three deaths), Brookdale Ashland (16 cases, one death), Avamere at Waterford Assisted Living Facility (19 cases, one death), Avamere at Three Fountains (48 cases), Skylark Assisted Living (27 cases, one death), Bonaventure of Medford Assisted Living (21 cases), The Springs at Veranda Park (20 cases), Celia's House in Holmes Park (11 cases), West Wind ECU (six cases), The Weatherly Court (45 cases, one death);
