COVID-19 cases dwindling in Rogue Valley

Oregon Health Authority data for the week shows COVID-19 cases are dwindling in Jackson and Josephine counties.

From Friday, March 18, through Sunday, March 20, OHA reported 27 new COVID-19 cases in Jackson County and 14 in Josephine County. OHA reported no COVID-19-related deaths for the Rogue Valley.

On Monday, OHA reported 19 COVID-19 cases and two COVID-19-related deaths for Jackson County. OHA reported 10 cases and no deaths for Josephine County.

For Tuesday, OHA reported no Rogue Valley deaths and 17 COVID-19 cases for Jackson County, and five cases in Josephine County.

For Wednesday, OHA reported 10 cases and two COVID-19-related deaths in Jackson County, plus four cases and no deaths in Josephine County.

For Thursday, OHA reported nine cases in Jackson County, and one case and one COVID-19-related death in Josephine County.

Rogue Valley hospitals were caring for 26 patients with the virus Monday. They were caring for 21 COVID-19 patients Friday.

In its weekly COVID-19 outbreak report released March 23, OHA reported no active outbreaks in Jackson County workplaces or child care facilities.

To protect privacy, OHA releases outbreak information only on workplaces with at least 30 workers and five COVID-19 cases, or child care facilities that care for more than 16 kids.

OHA reported active outbreaks in many Jackson County nursing homes and retirement communities. The onset of some of the outbreaks dates back to December 2021, when the omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus first started sweeping through Oregon. The case counts are cumulative for each facility.

Facilities on the outbreak list are Hearthstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (111 cases, three deaths), Avamere at Three Fountains (53 cases), Skylark Assisted Living (27 cases, one death), Bonaventure of Medford Assisted Living (21 cases), The Springs at Veranda Park (23 cases), The Weatherly Court (49 cases, two deaths), Rogue Valley Manor (15 cases), Linda Vista Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (35 cases), The Springs at Anna Maria (28 cases), Avamere Health Services of Rogue Valley (41 cases, one death), Table Rock Memory Care Community (38 cases, one death), Memory Support Center at Rogue Valley Manor (14 cases), Fountain Plaza (20 cases, one death), Kinsington Oak Grove (32 cases), Suncrest Place (13 cases), Morrow Heights Retirement & Assisted Living Community (19 cases) and Orchards Assisted Living (10 cases).

OHA reported recent outbreaks in K-12 schools where cases occurred within the past 28 days. Outbreaks in Jackson County were at:

Ashland High School (one student), Mae Richardson Elementary (two students, one adult), Griffin Creek Elementary (two adults), Rogue River Junior/Senior High School (two students), The Siskiyou School (one adult), Ashland Middle School (one student), Lone Pine Elementary (one student), Shady Cove School (two adults), Bellview Elementary (three students), McLoughlin Middle School (one adult), South Medford High School (one student), St. Mary's School (one student), Talent Middle School (two adults), Central Point Elementary (one student), Hoover Elementary (one student), Crater High School (one student), Jacksonville Elementary (two students) and Hedrick Middle School (one adult).
