‘Bright Star’ encore tonight helps Ashland student theater

Tickets are still available for Monday’s night special encore performance of “Bright Star,” the award-winning musical that has earned Ashland High School Theatre the showcase spot in the Oregon State Thespian Festival.

AHS was the only school selected to present its November musical, written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, to an expected audience of 1,500 on April 2 at the historic Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem, theater instructor Betsy Bishop said in a news release.

Monday night’s performance will be held at 7 p.m. at the AHS Mountain Avenue theater. Tickets are $10 and are available online at Ashlandhs.booktix.com.

Tickets will also be available at the door.

The show will serve “as a warmup for state, before they pack the truck and go up on the bus to Salem,” Bishop said.

Competing qualifiers at the acting competition include Brooklyn Williams and Lionel Ward in duo comic experienced acting, and Parker Greaves and Brooklyn Williams in solo musical.

Donations to help send the whole show to state March 30-April 2 can be made to the Ashland Schools Foundation at https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=2R2ynw.
