Jackson County averages 66 new daily COVID-19 cases
The Oregon Health Authority reported 459 new COVID-19 cases in Jackson County in the past week, for a daily average of almost 66 new cases.
Two Jackson County residents died of COVID-19-related causes during the past week, according to OHA.
On Friday, hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties were caring for 42 people with the virus, according to hospitalization data.
Rogue Valley hospitalization numbers have been trending up, but are still far below the winter high of 145 hospitalized COVID-19 patients or the fall 2021 peak of 223 patients.
Jackson County is in the high category for COVID-19 community risk levels, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC recommends that residents wear masks in public indoor spaces, stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations including boosters, get tested if they have symptoms and take additional precautions if they’re at high risk for severe illness or death from the virus.
Masks are not required by either the state or federal government.
OHA reported 147 new COVID-19 cases for the past week in Josephine County, for a daily average of 21 cases. Josephine County recorded one COVID-19-related death during that time.
Josephine County is in the medium category for COVID-19 community risk levels, according to the CDC.
Residents with health conditions that put them at heightened risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19 should consult with their health care providers about whether they should wear a mask and take other precautions, the CDC recommends.
Everyone should stay up to date on COVID-19 shots and get tested if they have symptoms, the CDC said.
Statewide, OHA reported 10,944 new COVID-19 cases for the past week, for a daily average of 1,563 cases. OHA recorded 10 COVID-19-related deaths.
Across Oregon, hospitals were caring for 344 patients with the virus Friday, according to hospitalization data.
