For those old enough to remember, America pulled together and became one United States after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.

And for those old enough to remember, America pulled together as one nation after the attacks almost 20 years ago on 9/11.

We gave overwhelming votes of support through our elected officials to seek Osama bin Laden, fight the Taliban, and later ISIS.

The Taliban grew as a terrorist movement, then state, sworn to hate America and our allies. They are still terrorists and thugs, only now they control Afghanistan in a war we spent 20 years fighting. We pulled out, unable to blow life into a democratic way of government, and as we hastily pulled out, the Taliban inherited the spoils of victory, including at least 166 Blackhawk helicopters we'd given the Afghan army.

On top of that, there is a scramble to flee Afghanistan, not just Americans unwelcomed there, but many nationals sympathetic to what we were trying to do, who now face persecution and perhaps death by the terrorists in control.

Once in charge of nomadic mountain villages, the Taliban are now dictating to America the terms of how and when we leave. It is not a great moment in our history, nor in the Biden Presidency.

In this Commentary, Larry Mendte walks you through the undisputed facts for context and perspective and then delivers his uncompromising verdict of how poorly our president and his team have failed.

Watch Larry's summary and let him know if you agree or disagree. This isn't about left v. right or Biden v. Trump. It's bigger. And means more than the mere ranting you'll see on the cable talkfests.

You can write Larry @mendte. And as always, thank you for watching the RoseBud Channel, and reading the Mail Tribune.
