Coronavirus Potentially Deals Detrimental Blow to MiLB

On March 11, the sports world stopped. Coronavirus suspended sports seasons that were in progress and delayed the start of sports like professional baseball.

Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball were already in a contentious dispute regarding the future of the minor leagues following the 2020 season. Teams were on the chopping block.

Now, teams could collapse anyways due to coronavirus causing potential financial hardships. If the season starts and games need to be played without fans, it could be detrimental to many Minor League Baseball teams.

Major League Baseball was already in disputes with Minor League Baseball regarding the future of the farm system following the 2020 season. The MiLB did not want to shrink in size, but that may be inevitable now that coronavirus has delayed the start of the season.
