This Day In Music: December 29th
On this Day in music in 1958 The Chipmunks Song by Alvin & The Chipmunks hit #1 on the Hot 100. The song won 3 Grammys that year. In 1973 Jim Croce’s Time In A Bottle hit #1 in the US three months after the singer was killed in a plane crash. In 1982, Jamaica issued a Bob Marley commemorative stamp, 1 year and 7 months after the singer’s death. In 1994, Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes of TLC pleaded guilty to arson after setting fire to the Atlanta, Georgia mansion of then-boyfriend & NFL player Andre Rison. The fire was started due to left-eye burning Rison’s sneakers in one of the mansion’s bathtubs for payback after an alleged physical altercation. Left-eye claimed Rison emotionally and physically abused her in the run up to the June 1994 incident. The fire got out of hand and spread throughout the mansion, completely destroying it. Lisa was sentenced to five years of probation and left the courtroom hand in hand with Rison.
