This Day in Music: December 31st

We begin the end of the year with 1966, when The Monkees started a 7-week run at number one on the US singles chart with “I’m a Believer”

Jumping back to 1942, The Police guitarist Andy Summers was born. He was best known for the number one single Every Breath you Take.

Just one year later, singer-songwriter Henry John Deutchendorf was born. He’d later be known as singer-songwriter and nature-lover John Denver.

Jumping ahead to 1984, Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm crashing his Corvette Stingray. Allen was on his way to a New Years Eve party at his family’s home when he engaged in a road rage incident with a Jaguar and lost control of the Corvette.

Rick Allen didn’t give up. In fact he learned to play the drums with one arm and would continue to play with the band.

Def Leppard was best known for their songs Photograph and Pour Some Sugar On Me.
