TALAT: Endangered Scarlet Macaws Released

Nicaraguan national zoo authorities released scarlet macaws and a couple of tapirs in a natural reserve.

The macaws were rescued from illegal trafficking .

According to a local veterinarian it is estimated that 90-percent of this species are illegally traded and die a week after their capture due to poor diet and stress.

The tapirs were also rescued, the species has disappeared due to the destruction of its natural habitat and indiscriminate hunting.

The reserve seeks to conserve them since both are endangered species.
