Third Friday

"Entanglement," a large-scale painting by Ashland artist Harriett Rex Smith, took the People's Choice award last weekend during the Art in Bloom Festival in Medford. Smith's painting will be purchased by the Medford Arts Commission and added to the city of Medford's permanent collection. It also will appear on the 2010 Art in Bloom poster.

Three of Smith's paintings were selected — along with other artwork by Rogue Valley artists — to be included in the annual Art in Bloom Invitational exhibit at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, and last week's festival-goers voted Smith's "Entanglement" as their favorite.

Smith earned art degrees from Indiana University and Notre Dame and has taught at universities and art centers. She works at her studio on Greensprings Highway. See harriettrexsmith.com.

The Art in Bloom Invitational exhibit will be displayed through Saturday, May 23, at the Rogue Gallery, and a Third Friday reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
