First Friday art walk in Ashland

New exhibits highlight the First Friday art walk in Ashland's downtown and railroad district. The monthly art walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2.

Art walk maps are available at the galleries and at the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. Visitors will find opportunities to meet the artists, watch art demonstrations, hear live music and enjoy refreshments at some of the galleries. Check the following listings for details. Please note that some galleries will be closed during the event.

HOUSTON'S CUSTOM FRAMING AND FINE ART: 270 E. Main St., www.houstoncustomframing.com, 482-1983. Pieces of Asian art from the collection of Alice and Jack Hardesty and live music performances.

ILLAHE STUDIOS AND GALLERY: 215 Fourth St., www.illahetile.com, 488-5072. "Journey Through Light and Color" featuring intaglio etchings, vitreographs, mixed media and artist books by Dan Welden, Cathy DeForest, Nancy Bardos and Mary Laird. During the art walk, actors from Oregon Cabaret Theatre will present songs from "What's Going On: Songs of the '70s." Also, guitarist Matt Gwinup will perform, and there will be spirits from Organic Nation and toffee from Recession Candy Company.

JEGA GALLERY AND SCULPTURE GARDEN: 625 A St., www.jega4art.com, 488-2474. "Arts of Peace: Visions of Hope for the World," an exhibit curated by Wilkins O'Riley Zinn, will be presented, along with art activities for visitors.
