First Friday art walk in Ashland

New exhibits highlight the First Friday art walk in Ashland's downtown and railroad district. The monthly art walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Art walk maps are available at the galleries and at the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. Visitors will find opportunities to meet the artists, watch art demonstrations, hear live music and enjoy refreshments at some of the galleries. Check the following listings for details. Please note that some galleries will be closed during the event.

The following galleries are members of the Ashland Gallery Association:

AMERICAN TRAILS: 27 N. Main St., www.americantrails.com, 488-2731. Pottery, prints, baskets and jewelry in American Indian themes, along with handcrafted jewelry by Priscilla Nieto and Harvey Abeyta of Santo Domingo, Mexico. "Le Vida de Muerte" art prints by Linda Bark'karie, and music by guitarist Jon Galfano.

BOHEMIA GALLERY AND FRAMING: 552 A St., www.bohemiagallery.com, 488-5227. An art lounge, framery, gift shop and live performance venue. Oil paintings by New York artist Sabine Friesicke and December's mini show featuring Ann DiSalvo, Anahata Katkin, Flora Bowley, Kaycee Anseth-Townsend and others. Wine-tasting courtesy of Liquid Assets, and live music by the Flat Five String Band.

CONCETTI FINE ARTS: 40 N. Main St., www.lindacurtisstudio.com, 601-0963. Small acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel paintings along with assemblage, printmaking and holiday gift items and cards by various local artists. Hand-painted silk scarves by gallery artist Connie Simonsen. Watercolor and ink paintings by Madaline blue. Live music by guitarist Paul Gerardi, wine and appetizers also will be available.

DAVIS AND CLINE GALLERY: 525 A St., Suite 1, 482-2069, www.davisandcline.com. The gallery's exhibits are posted at davisandcline.com. The gallery will be closed during the First Friday art walk.

Etienne GALLERY: 270 Fourth St., 482-1766, www.etiennegallery.com. Madonnas from Cristina Acosta's Hispanic culture exhibit, photography by Barbara Grant, sculpture by Marianne Groh, oil paintings by Nicole Etienne Powell and Suzanne Etienne and straw angels by Carmen Bergmann.

GALLERIE KARON: 500 A St., 482-9008. A Holiday Show, "Gifted," featuring a collection of artwork by 21 Northwest artists and photographers as well as jewelry, antiques, handmade dolls and animals. There will be live jazz music and wine.

HANSON HOWARD GALLERY: 82 N. Main St., www.hansonhowardgallery.com, 488-2562. A 30th anniversary celebration and the annual holiday salon featuring extraordinary northwest and gallery artists including Robert DeVoe and Randall Tipton.

HOUSTON'S CUSTOM FRAMING AND FInE ART: 270 E. Main St., www.houstoncustomframing.com, 482-1983. "Water and Land of the Rogue" oil paintings by Jacksonville artist Sarah Waldron.

ILLAHE STUDIOS AND GALLERY: 215 Fourth St., www.illahegallery.com, 488-5072. The holiday glass show featuring hand blown glass and fused glass creations by Evie Ault, Steven Cornett, Mike Korpa and Pattie Wessman. Guitarist Matt Gwinup will perform, and there will be wine tasting courtesy of Eden Vale Winery as well as hot cider and candy samples provided by Recession Candy Company.

JEGA GALLERY AND SCULPTURE GARDEN: 625 A St., www.jega4art.com, 488-2474. A collection of artwork by an Alzheimer's patient as well as artwork from the gallery collection, outdoor sculptures and contemporary art. Pianist Anthony Turner will perform.

NIMBUS: 25 E. Main St., 482-3621. Fine art and contemporary crafts, along with organic bowls made from birdseye maple burl wood and redwood by woodworker Richard Watson.

SCHNEIDER MUSEUM OF ART: 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., www.sou.edu/sma, 552-6245. A resource for fine art exhibits and art education. The museum is closed during the First Friday art walk. "Harmony Universal," a collection of musical instruments from the Shuman Collection, and recent additions to the museum's permanent collection currently are on display.

ACH promotes the integration of art and health care with an exhibit of artwork by artists Linda Evans, Norm Rossignol, Jan Harvey, Julie Young, Virginia Govedare, Anyes B., Nancy Block, Robyn Lane, Midge Black, Adrienne Bailin, Mack Ransom, Ken Muhlestein, Marge Payne, Elaine Witteveen and Linda Curtis. There will be live music by Marimba Mike, appetizers and hot cider.

THE CROWN JEWEL: 130 E. Main St., www.thecrownjewel.net, 488-2401. An antique Buddha of carved lapis lazuli. Art work by Katharine Gracey is featured at the Crown Jewel in Jacksonville.
