Third Friday art walk in Medford

Color makes a statement in Art du Jour's May exhibit.

Brilliant reds, blues, greens, pinks and yellows are the subject of the multimedia exhibit "Kaleidoscope of Color," featuring paintings and collages by nearly 20 gallery artists. There will be an artists' reception with refreshments and a live demonstration by Medford guest artist Jon "Murdo" Matheson from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Third Friday art walk, May 18, at the gallery, 213 E. Main St. Matheson's watercolor butterflies will be featured through the end of the month.

The gallery also will showcase new works by all its artists, including Ruthanne Bray, Millie Clarke, Dodie Hamilton-Brandon, Margo Garnett, Cammy Davis, Georganne Happel, Ruth Heath, Judy Hubler, Ray Kelly, Boni Kettering, Dixie Kinser, Yvonne Kitchen, Susie Lee, Ginny Matheson, Margery Mercer, Norm Rossignol, Dick Woods and Marilyn Zupan.

In recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month, Providence Medford Medical Center collaborated with several downtown galleries to display state-of-the art images of the brain, provided by Oregon Advanced Imaging, Medford Radiological Group and the Providence Carl Brophy Stroke Program. The images will show at Rogue Gallery & Art Center, Art du Jour, The Studio at Living Opportunities, My Daughter's Closet and outside of other businesses on easels.

Along with Providence's brain display, Rogue Gallery will host a retrospective exhibit, titled "Eugene Bennett: A Life in Art," featuring more than 70 paintings, collages, sculptures, assemblages, ceramics and photographs from the artist's personal collection. An opening reception with refreshments provided by Harry & David, Rogue Creamery and RoxyAnn Winery as well as a scavenger hunt, "Finding Bennett," will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford. Bennett, who died in 2010, was one of the founding members of the gallery and avid supporter of local arts programs. His works will be on display through June 9 at the gallery. Third Friday poker-walk participants can pick up a score card, map and instructions at any of the following businesses: Art du Jour, Downtown Market Co., Facets Jewelry Studio, Lawrence's Jewelers, Morrissey's Clothes Cottage, My Daughter's Closet, Norris Shoes, Nui Kai, Pacific Diamond Jewelers, Phat Kat Tattoo and Piercing, Photography by Lahna Marie, SOU/RCC Higher Education Center, Rogue Gallery & Art Center, Schroeder's Furniture, Spoons, Sunrise Catering and Cafe, Terra Firma and The Studio at Living Opportunities. A $100 gift card redeemable at a downtown business will be awarded to the person with the winning hand.

Parking in downtown Medford and in the parking structure on Sixth Street is free after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.
