Visual arts: Give the gift of art
Ashland Art Center will host a giving tree. Help a child in need by donating. The center’s First Friday weekend sale will feature handcrafted scarves, jewelry, fiber art, woodwork and ceramics, along with paintings, prints and photography. There will be live music by Jennifer Davis, a raffle, wine from Platt Anderson Cellars, and a bake sale will be available Saturday, Dec. 8.
A photography exhibit by Bobbi Murphy, “Bittersweet: Yosemite 20 Years Later,” will be displayed through January at The Photographers’ Gallery in the Ashland Art Center. The park where John Muir once walked is not unscathed by the impact of climate change, forest fires and pine beetles, yet visitors come in crowds greater than ever.
Gallerie Karon’s December show, “Gifts by the Gifted,” features work by all of the gallery’s artists.
An exhibit of watercolor paintings by Nora Costley, “A Study on the Transition of Life,” will be displayed at Shepherd’s Dream.
Lithia Artisans Holiday Market will move to the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway, after 13 years in the Art Wing at Briscoe Elementary in Ashland. Look for more than 60 artisans from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. at the armory. There will be a raffle for a $100 gift certificate on Sunday.
Galleries in downtown Ashland and its Railroad District unveil new exhibits, host art demonstrations and live music from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. Some artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues.
