Sunday was wet in Jackson County
More than half an inch of rain fell on parts of Jackson County during a 24-hour period from Sunday into Monday, the National Weather Service said.
From 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday, 0.63 inch fell around the Emigrant Lake area near Ashland, with 0.54 inch recorded in Talent. The activity was a bit tamer farther north, with 0.29 inch at the Medford airport and 0.36 inch in southern Grants Pass, according to National Weather Services meteorologist Sven Nelaimischkies.
In northern Josephine County and Douglas County, Merlin received 0.76 inch, and 0.67 inch dropped on Roseburg, Nelaimischkies said.
Since Oct. 1 — the start of the water year — 4.07 inches of rain has fallen on Medford. That’s 1.59 inches below the normal level of 5.66 inches, though it is a notable improvement from the same period in 2019, when only 2.87 inches of rain had fallen over the city, according to Weather Service data.
Mount Ashland received 9 inches of new snow over 24 hours, according to the ski park’s website.
Another significant front is expected to arrive Wednesday. More than a foot of snow is expected to fall on Mount Ashland Wednesday into Thursday, Nelaimischkies said. That system is forecast to bring as much as 0.75 inch of rain to Medford.
